Returning to South Florida after college, I taught and coached at Hialeah H.S. and then back to Edison as the Director of Student Activities after Bill Thomas retired. In 1968 I married Annette, an Italian Connecticut yankee, and moved back to ASU where I taught and coached football for the next two years, much to my new wife’s chagrin.

Finally in 1970 we returned to South Florida, I accepted a teaching position at Broward Community College, and we started our family with the birth of our wonderful twin sons, Jason and Justin. (below, right. Looks like the fruit didn't fall far from the tree, Shelby.) The next 37 years at BCC were great: I loved the teaching, I loved the international study abroad opportunities every summer, and I loved being an Academic Dean toward the end of that full time career.

For the last five and a half years, Palm Coast has become home mainly because Jason and Justin and their young families (three grandsons) (Do they have goatees also?) live in nearby Jacksonville, and secondly because my car knows the way to all the local golf courses. Teaching part time at Flagler College in St. Augustine allows me to continue my love affair with the classroom while attempting to stay “young” at least at heart. Annette and I have chosen to follow separate paths, yet ironically she also now lives in Jacksonville, so the family stays strong.

By 1966 I had found my career, Aerospace Metals sales. I was employed by , Jenks Metals, All Spec Metals, General Aerospace Materials, Metals USA, Inmetco, and finally Jenks Metals in 2008 I retired.

Alice Mathewson

I had looked forward to our 50th Class Reunion and I’m so sorry I couldn’t get there. Maybe this will help catch us up. . .
After Edison I went to Stetson University and graduated with a B.A. in Art. I also sang all 4 years with the Concert Choir “Travel Squad”. Moved to Daytona Beach where I taught Art (K-12 & adults) for 34 yrs. with a little commercial art squeezed in. Several times “Teacher of the Month”, and “Teacher of the Year” representing my school were honors I was very proud of. I met and married an FSU grad (also a teacher) and we were blessed with 2 great kids – Beth and Brian. In ‘86 I received my M.Ed. in Visual Arts Education. My husband and I divorced after 25 yrs. of marriage.
Both kids graduated from FSU. Beth married her college sweetheart and they have 2 sons - Colin 11, and Brendan 8. Brian married a U of Ga. grad and they have a son – Alex 2. All of them (as of this month) now live in Atlanta (and I handily live across the street from the Daytona airport!)
Despite surviving a brain stem stroke in ’96, I continued to teach another 10 years. I have been active in many art, music, and education organizations over the years, and still do some art work, currently watercolor portraits of kids and pets. Also done some traveling to W. Europe, France and Italy, Yucatan, Belize, Mexico, Caribbean and U.S.
At present I’m enjoying retirement and NOT having to arise at 6 AM daily ! Now I can do all those projects I never had time for, and participate more in my kids’ and grandsons’ lives, and in my 2 sisters’ - Pat (class of ’62) and Christine (class of ’64) and their 6 grand kids lives. Life has been good and I have been blessed in many ways.

I have a single daughter, Sandy, by the way, in case any of you have a single son (I'm not a matchmaker, just a promoter. Met my husband, John, in 1986 and we've been together ever since (no more children). We married in 2001 and can't wait for everyone to meet him. Quite the character and right up my alley. Have been working at law firm of Becker & Poliakoff for 29 years (this July). Hope to attend our 50th (yikes) So for those of you who know me, would love to hear.from you. Gordon Certain

On learning I had liver cancer back in 2003, I couldn't really expect to be alive for this reunion. But today, I am healthy.

I came to Atlanta in 1960 to attend Georgia Tech and stayed, working for Lockheed Martin until retiring in 1998. My wife Sue is also retired. Sue and I, after dating off and on (in between several other marriages), finally married each other in 1984.

We have two daughters. The older, Maria Felch, was luckily running a little late to her job at the World Trade Center on the morning of 9/11 – she survived to give us our only grandchild, Sage. Jessica Certain, now 23, is going into her final year at New College of Florida in Sarasota. I have been president of our neighborhood's "North Buckhead Civic Association" since 2000. Sue and I enjoy gardening and Sue coordinates delivery of food donations from our neighborhood's community gardens to a local soup kitchen.

We also like to travel: during our last vacation we took a white-knuckle rental car trip around Morocco (with me at the wheel) – I thought Miami traffic was bad until I drove in Marrakech! We hope to see you all soon.

Dorcas (Dee) Saylor

I never finished college - some classes at U of Miami, Georgia Tech, Gwinnett Tech - luckily the companies I have worked for have sent me all of the place to train in private schools. I have worked in HR/Marketing/Technical Writing/Database Management for over 35 years, for Associates Financial Services (CITI), Bellsouth Communications, Bausch & Lomb Southern Division, Williams Service Group (Engineering Company), and Nordson Manufacturing.  In between raising 3 children, volunteering with several charities, I designed children's clothing items on my own and did some specialty designs for a friend's interior decorating group.  I was a licensed Realtor in Greater Atlanta for several years and just retired my license last year. I am now working to become a certified Master Gardner and enjoy perennial gardening and landscape design. I have had a busy 50 years and all I wanted to do when I got out of high school was - to join Pan American Airlines as a Stewardess and be stationed in Europe, where I planned to educate myself and travel throughout Europe - I wouldn't have changed a thing, I have enjoyed my life just like it is - I have loved every minute!

 Four Generations:
left-to-right, my granddaughter in-law, Mary, my grandson Stephen, Me, daughter Liz holding my great granddaughter Sophia and Larry, my x-husband and yes, we are still friends.

Russ Brown

After playing for the Gators, I was drafted by the Washington Redskins and lived in Washington DC part time for a couple of years. Tore my right thigh muscle from my hip and lost the ability to run fast. Finished my degree in Journalism and a minor in Broadcasting in 1964.
After my stent with the "Skins" went to work full time in Orlando promoting milk of all things. My Father-in-law was a dairy farmer. Met the President of a bank in Orlando one day teaching him how to milk a cow. He said come by to see him and I moved on to banking and marketing.
The Bank turned into the Sun Banks which I was a part of during the first five years as advertising manager and marketing director for the lead bank. Involved with Disney a lot...a real "hoot.'
Our success gained me recognition and I was talked into moving to Houston, TX. Later some one else wanted to pay me more money and we moved to Dallas, then to Memphis. All as Marketing Director of Bank Holding Companies.
A group in California wanted to pay me more money and offered a chance to me get  into a top management position so I became a Californian. First came out here in the early 80's.
The worked as a Chief Operating Officer of a Banking Holding Company in Idaho. My job was to get the group ready to sell to another banking group. We did. I had become tired of being a  banker. My reputation as a "turn around guy" had worn me out. Took the money and ran.
Then decided to become a financial advisor to have something to do and ended up setting up my own firm in Sacramento, CA, five years later. That was twenty or so years ago and now am semi-retired, retaining only eleven large accounts, who will not let me retire.
I have a single digit golf handicap, and love competition and especially tournament play.
I had worn out my first wife, who I married in college or vice versa. We had two kids together. My Son lives in Longs Beach, a UCLA grad and was on their golf team. He has two sons.  My Daughter lives in Atlanta, a Northwestern University grad no children.
Have been with my second wife for 25 years. No children. She raised my two kids. A truly lucky find on my part. Beautiful, smart and can whip my butt in a New York minute.
Have had numerous operations related to football. You body eventually pays the price. Have dodged other bullets but am now in pretty good shape.
Love my Gators, even though they were not mentally ready for the SEC Championship game. Too many pro contracts dancing in their heads.
Am proud of my Edison High teammates and our accomplishments. I just wish my Gator's had the drive and ambition of that group. Never has a group of undersized football players accomplish more. We just knew we were going to win. A great attitude which I have carried most of my life. "It's not a mater of if...it's only a matter of time."

Holly Burt

Hello all 1960 classmates! I am looking forward to reuniting with you next summer at our 50th reunion (we CAN’T be that old!). I graduated from The University of Alabama (Roll Tide, National Champs!) in 1964, and became a flight attendant for Pan American World Airways.
In 1990 I received a Masters Degree in Business Management from St. Thomas University in Miami. I spent 40 great, fun years flying all over the world (we had no domestic flying). It was an education in itself. In 1971,
I married Donnie Black (our class), and we were married for 16 years. We still remain very good friends.
I moved to Lake Toxaway, N.C., in 1999, and retired from flying in 2005. Lake Toxaway is about 50 miles west of Asheville. I live on top of a mountain with a beautiful, panoramic view of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Southern Appalachian Mountains.
After I had been retired for only 2 months, a developer friend of mine asked me to come to Asheville and sell a large condo development for him. Now I am the broker-in-charge for the realty company that evolved from this development, live in Asheville during the week and go back to Lake Toxaway for the weekends.
I taught spinning (bike) classes at a couple of local gyms, and am at the gym almost every morning. A few years ago, I rode my bicycle across the State of N.C. R30;..500 miles in a week (think LOTS of mountains!). If you’ve never been to Asheville, come up and visit! It’s a very cool and quirky little city, with great restaurants, live music venues, local breweries, and art galleries. I can’t wait to see everyone!

Bill Smith

A little leeway for the Web Master please. I used this picture from 1959 in memory of my hair. Gravity is a terrible thing.
Two days after graduating I was at Paris Island. I spent 4 years in the Marine Corps and thankfully finished my obligation in time to miss Viet Nam.
I spent fifteen years bouncing around sales, then electronics; then sales, then Industrial Engineering before starting my business as a Chimney Sweep. Yes, I wore a top hat and danced on roof tops. I did that for 30 years. My company cleaned over 40,000 chimneys in the Northeast before I retired to Florida and Alabama.
My wife Kathy and I have two daughters, five beautiful grandkids and three dogs.
I hope you're enjoying the website. Please forgive any errors or omissions. I'm kind of learning as I go. I intended to have a three page log-in tool when I started it in December 2008. If I had planned ahead, it probably run better and smoother. Then, again, if I knew what it would turn into, I may have been intimidated and backed away.151 of us got reacquainted at the 50th. I believe we all gained from the experience, and most said they plan to be back in two years. So those of you who emailed your regrets, - Set the time aside. Put a few bucks away. Be there!!! Probably at the Doral, Probably early Ausust.

 Gay Munsell

When I graduated from Edison I went to work for Garner Insurance Agency and worked there until I married Gene Self in 63. We spent almost 3 years in Madrid, Spain while he was in the Air Force. Our first son, Tim, was born there. Upon coming back to Miami, I went back to work for Garner Insurance until our second son, Jeff was born. Was a stay at home Mom till they went to school and then worked part-time. In 77 Gene and I felt the Lord calling us into full time Christian ministry. We have served in various Baptist churches in Miami andthen in Tallahassee. We lost our son Jeff in a dirt bike accident in 98. It has been a joy over these years to love and minister to so many people.   In 07 we retired to Lake Mary, Fl. to be near our son Tim and his family. It is great being near our grandchildren (2 girls & 1 boy) who are now all teenagers and growing up to be beautiful inside and out. Gene is now doing Transitional Pastorate work. Kind of like an Interim Pastor, but more involved. We just finished fourteen months with First Baptist of Lake Alfred.
This past year we became Shaklee Independent Distributors to have additional income (thanks to the market) and so far have done well. Shaklee is the #1 leading company producing all natural Nutritional and Cleaning Products. A green company that is 100% environment neutral. If you have allergies or are interested in an established business opportunity, check our website.
We are looking forward to becoming reacquainted with old friends, and are saddened by those who have passed

This is a picture of my wife Sue, our two sons, Eric and Rob, their wives, Jenn and Ellie and our grandsons, Cole and Jake.  This picture was taken this past summer at Lake Norman, outside Charlotte, NC.

I'm retired after a career in Banking and Residential Lending.  Sue and I have been married for 43 years and live in Estero, FL (just north of Naples).  We enjoy travelling, playing tennis and golf and spending as much time as we can with our family.

Going on the Edison website and seeing the names and faces of my classmates has brought back many fond memories of our high school years.  Where has the time gone?

After attending the Citadel for 3 years, I went into the Air Force Reserves for 6 years. I started a construction with 2 partners in 1969 and sold the business in 1996, then stayed on with the company that bought us.

I am currently working and have been  married to Darlys for 40 years. We have 3 children and 2 grandkids, Alec and Aidan. (That's us in the upper right corner in the early 70s, and below, at the Grand Canyon earlier this year)

After Edison I went to Univ. of Florida for 2yrs, married and finished a BSED at Southern IL Univ. I have 3 daughters: a pharmaceutical rep in Lakeland, a PhD medical research scientist/professor at the Center for Tropical Diseases, Notre Dame, and an exec with Disney in Orlando; in addition - two grandsons 9 and 3. Was married for 30 yrs. Co-founded, managed and acted as a consultant for a market research/strategic planning consulting group that served the electric power industry of North America for almost 20 yrs while living in the St. Louis area. Moved to Atlanta to head up a new division of an internet firm (e-learning) serving the same industry, then to Lakeland to be with daughter and grandson where I sold new home construction for a high-end, custom builder (Boy those were great years!)
I have finally retired to Sand Key, FL where I am learning to sail everything from 28ft Keel boats to Catamarans to Prams. I belong to a women’s Pram racing league in Dunedin. Now I sit on my balcony and watch the sun rise over Clearwater Bay and set in the Gulf. While I have traveled to many places overseas (especially loved the Greek Islands and diving the BVI’s) I am really glad to be back in FL.  Why didn’t someone tell me retirement would be so much FUN!!!

This is the wedding Picture of my Wife Patty and me, taken in 1965. Soon thereafter, we were headed to our first duty station. Guam. While on Guam, our first child, Jack, was born. He also enlisted in the US Navy and recently retired after 22 years of active duty.

And, this is a picture of Patty and me, 1 April, 1992, the day I retired from the Navy.. We are at home, standing in our back yard, just prior to departing for the traditional “piping over the side” Navy retirement ceremony at Macdill AFB. I enlisted 7 Jan 1964 and served  28+ years on continuous active duty. We were married in Miami 8/28/1965. Currently, Patty and I have been married over 44 years. God willing, we hope to celebrate  our 50th Anniversary in good health!

After high school, I first attended Memphis State Univ., then went on the road for two years with a professional chorus and band. While on tour, I solidified my life's calling as a musician, specifically as a singer.
In 1964, I secured a music scholarship at the Univ. of Miami, where my undergraduate degree and graduate studies (in music-theory/composition) stretched to 1974. While at The U, I traveled through Europe and the Far East with the Singing Hurricanes.
In 1982, I married Jan, also a professional singer (and trumpet player).  Jan and I have traveled extensively as both tourists and singers on tour.   I have worked as a singer-guitarist, woodwind instrumentalist, player of ancient instruments, and church musician in the South Florida area up to the present.

I went to college in Nashville, became a teacher, married a guy from Ohio who became a newspaper reporter, editor and later PR executive for an electric utility. (August 9, we will celebrate our 46th anniversary).  I quit teaching, raised a family--a son, Eric, who is a high school band director; daughter Erin, a house-wife in Nashville; and Esther, also a teacher.  My husband and I started a nursery in 1982, and since that time I have been actively involved in horticulture.  We have a 15-acre nursery in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee.  For more information, please check our website

I graduated from FSU in 1964, and married Paul Honeycutt from our class later the same year. I taught Math for one year, and subbed for several more. Paul and I had two children, Cindi and Wayne, and 3 grandchildren. We divorced after 11 years. I married Ron Hankins in 1976, and we have celebrated 33 years together. I worked as a Bookkeeper and Office Manager for Ron's electronics business. We sold the business in 1987. Then I became an antique dealer. I rented space in antique malls and did shows in Florida. Now, I just dabble at selling off my left over inventory on e-bay. Paul and I had moved to Seminole County, FL in 1970. I still live in the same county, in Oviedo; which is a suburb of Orlando. I am active in my church, Homemakers club, Red Hat Society, and water exercise at the Y. I also enjoy gardening, scrapbooking and making beaded jewelry. I would enjoy hearing from any one from our class, especially fellow Cadettes and members of Little River Rainbow

Since the "Edison Days" I filled my life with many great times, and, some not so great! I was blessed with six (6) wonderful children...yes you read that correctly! They were the joy of my life...that is until they gave me the unbelievable gift of grandchildren.
After being a housewife for seventeen years, I went to work for Greyhound Lines in Miami then transferred with them to St. Petersburg. Two strikes later, our local office closed and I went to work for the US Postal Service from which I retired.
Today, living in Clearwater, I dabble in real estate and work part-time at an area Chamber of Commerce. I look forward to reconnecting with old friends

Carol Fiske

After graduating from Edison, I went to the University of Missouri to study journalism.  I did not graduate but did two years under grad studies there.
I left school to marry a Miami sweetheart who was studying automotive design in Los Angeles.  That did not work out but I did stay in Los Angeles and my family followed.  I spent about 35 years working and living in the Los Angeles area.  I got married in 1968, raised two sons, started my own business and pretty much have been an entrepreneur most of my adult life.  I was divorced after 24 years of marriage and remarried again in 1996.
My oldest son is a physician in the Army and is father to my three grandchildren ages 10, 5 and 3.  My youngest son is single and is an attorney living in Seattle.
My second husband and I moved to Tampa Florida in 1996 and lived there for 9 years.  Four years ago after my son got stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC we moved permanently to the mountains of NC having had a summer home there for years.  We live near Boone/Blowing Rock which is as close to heaven as it gets.
I am also a Realtor in Boone and welcome any and all inquiries from Floridians (or others) who may be looking for "cool" mountain property.  I look forward to attending the 50th next year and to rekindling old friendships.

After I graduated from college I taught history and government for 2 years under Mr. Shumard. Remember him? . I have submitted a photo to go next to my yearbook photo. I haven’t had one taken recently so we were on a cruise to New Zealand and they took this on the ship. I call it my obituary picture since it’s the only other one I have of myself is 20 years old.

I am still working here at the Dalí Museum because I just really can’t see myself as a retiree

We'll get some pictures at the reunion, Carol. Looks to me like you're a long way from an obit picture. - ed.

Carol Arndt

The beautiful one in this photo is my granddaughter…the only girl in a total of 5 grandchildren…she is not spoiled much.
I worked for the State of Florida for 17 years.  I left Florida in the 80’s and finally landed in Pittsburgh , PA.  Owned a business there for several years then sold it and went to work for a large property management company…let someone else do the worrying.  Two sons in the service came home on leave and married girls (best friends) from Pittsburgh .  They were both stationed in Germany and two of my grandsons were born in Nuremberg , while they were off in Desert Storm.  Gave me a reason to visit and be helpful while we women all worried.
Retired and moved to Red Lion, PA to be near my one and only granddaughter, oh yes, and her family.  Work part time for a non-profit and at 67 found my calling.  I remain the bleeding heart liberal and can finally put it to good use on a daily basis.
I have had fun going back through the years on this site and Bill and Carol are to be commended for a GREAT job and a real BLAST FROM THE PAST….thanks.  And HI! to all of you out there who share the same good memories.

Charles  Godber

After serving a three year enlistment with one tour in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic and gunner, I was discharged.  I went to work for The Boeing Company in Renton, Washington building jets from 1963 to 1968.  I then joined the Washington State Patrol as a Trooper.  Part of my career was flying for the department.   I flew the Governors; other elected officials and flying the traffic airplanes.  I also was a part time corporate pilot for a hardware company in Seattle.  After 25 years on the patrol I retired and moved to Plano, Texas in 1993 were I now reside.  I started a General Nutrition Center franchise and had two stores.  In 2007 I sold the stores and retired again for good, I think.

This may sound like an obituary but I assure you I am alive and well and plan to be so for a few more years.

I forgot to mention in my last update that I am married and have two (adult) children, three (adult) grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Oh yes, I am as old as the rest of you all. The lady in the picture is my bride, Mary, of 50 years next month.
