SACHA ALEJANDRO SIMON DOB: 02/08/44 DOD: 11/09/09 DIED IN CARACAS, VENEZUELA Sacha’s senior photo is not in the Beacon, neither are “Senior Activities” listed for him. I was able to contact Sanin Simone, of our class, through facebook.com and he told me of his brother’s death. He was kind enough to send me the following information. Sacha was born in Caracas, Venezuela. Descendants of Spaniards, Chinese, Portugese, and Jewish men and women who came as immigrants. Sacha obtained his B. S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida. He went on to get a M.S. from Cornell University. The thesis that Sacha wrote, as a partial fulfillment for the degree of master of Science at Cornell, was published as one of the best ten works and became part of a chemical engineers reference book. Sacha served as a member of Professor Julian C. Smith’s Special Committee, and was encouraged by him to go for his PHD. However, he did consult me, and I told him that if he was coming back to Venezuela, it wasn’t going to make a real difference here. The title of his thesis is “The Study of the Anomalous Fluidation Behavior of a Fluid Cracking Catalist (FCC)”. He married Isabel Duplat in March, 1973 and they had three children: Sacha (born 1/76), Diana (12/77) and Victor (7/82). Sacha and Victor are both chemical engineers with Master’s degrees and Diana is a medical doctor. He had four grandchildren. He worked all his life as an executive in the Venezuelan Petroleum Company. Sacha’s hobbies were reading, cooking (he was a Chef) and walking every day. Sacha died from pancreatic cancer, two months after he was diagnosed. He did everything in his life the right and proper way. He was a true product of the 60’s generation…honest and full of good values. He had a productive and happy life. |
