Hi, I'm Bill Smith.
I'm the self appointed editor and webmaster for this
site. I started this site because of an impromptu
meeting after breakfast at the 2008 Over the Hill Gang
Reunion last August. There
were about
10 of us, our focus was gathering our class for the next
reunion in 2010. We selected
Louis Accornere
group chairman, and,
since I had web
space available, I volunteered to throw together a site to
gather email addresses to facilitate communications. This
was the second reunion I had attended. I had only registered
for the Saturday daytime activities because I
wasn't sure I would enjoy it. I hadn't
maintained relationships after leaving school. Moreover, I
hadn't joined any clubs or extra-curricular activities, and I couldn't think of anyone who I
called a "best friend". I was one of the 76 who
had been
omitted from the Beacon. I wasn't even sure I could prove
I belonged to the class without pulling out my diploma.
That's why I felt
compelled to put several pictures here. Heck, I wouldn't
have remembered me. This
was the only picture of me in the yearbook.
Didn't look very happy, did I?
I expected to throw up a notice and an email address and my
job would be done. Two hours and I was done. Right?
Wrong, a funny thing happened as I got into the project. I
went through my Beacon on CD, and the pictures brought back
memories of friends, teachers, events, the patio, The Orange
Bowl. I genuinely felt
remorse when I found that Darrel Cox, Bucky Enriques, Reuben
Davis and others had passed away. Acquaintances really, not
"friends", but I had a real sense of loss.
We have all gone on and developed other groups of friends,
college, military, career (even a 2nd or 3rd career), we've
built families. But, we are still part of each other. I'm
happy that
you found this site. I hope you like it. I hope you'll
contact us, and I hope that you join us for our 50th
reunion.
